There is a new term that is starting to make some impacts on students: Nature Deficit Disorder (by Richard Louv in his 2005 book Last Child in the Woods). This term is used to help people understand that being outdoors and in nature is as important as eating, drinking, and sleeping.
Colliery Dam Park is a great place for students to get away for just a few minutes to relax. So if you are feeling a little overwhelmed by the new school year, or just need a few minutes to think and clear your head, then Colliery Dam Park is a good place.
Colliery Dam Park is located on the corner of 6th Street and Wakesiah Street, just a few minutes down the road from Vancouver Island University. The trails and the park stretch up towards the parkway, with swimming holes, trails, and fishing available too!
