Spring is here, when blossom appear!
Very few places in Canada are as exquisite as Vancouver Island is, in April. For those of you travelling from the interior, you may have forgotten what color looks like… these photos were taken on March 23, 2013 just outside the guesthouse.
Lennart Mid Term Report
Midterm Report
Lennart Hollweg
It has been more than four months since I left Germany for my 6-month internship at the
Painted Turtle Guesthouse in Nanaimo. I have to say: “I can’t believe that time went by
so quickly!”
I have never been so far away from home, and a trip like this in a foreign country always
comes with anticipation, excitement but also fear. My fear was gone after the first day in
Marimba in the Market
The beat, I heard it through the street.
it echoed down the corridor, and in our front door.
The music caught my ears, it made me want to cheer
Its like the cow from Guelph, I had to see it for myself.
The beat, it started in my feet.
It moved up my bones, with the vibrating tones.
The smiles, went for miles.
The cruisies were dancing reeeal groovy!
This is my tribute to the amazing Parksville band Kumbana Marimba who was playing there spectacular beats at the Nanaimo downtown market.
Floating bathtubs!?!
2 more days until the very popular World Championship Bathtub Race begins.
This event has everything; a parade, food vendors, a downtown sidewalk sale, FREE live music, kids carnival and Fireworks!!!!
So you might me asking why bathtubs? Here's the brief history ......
Harbour City - Festival Fun!!
Nanaimo! oh our Harbour Front City, how we adore the festivals that come specifically to our waters.
The past few weekends have been full of excitement.
On July 6-8 the town was beating to the drums of the 10th Annual Dragon Boat Festival. This is a very special event, not only because Nanaimo gets a chance to host teams from all across North America but also because the purpose of this event is to raise money for the fight against Breast Cancer.
The Guesthouse was lucky to have a good portion of our guests competing in the Dragon Boat Races.
