Hey, I’m Marie, a.k.a. M.J.! I am a German intern, working at the Painted Turtle Guesthouse from April ’08 until the end of August. Back home, in Munich, I study English and Art to become a teacher. Travelling and getting to know different cultures and languages have always been of major importance to me, so I enjoy meeting people from all around the world here at the Guesthouse. My favourite things about Nanaimo include:

• Hiking around Newcastle Island
• Shopping at Woodgrove Centre
• Swimming in the Lakes (Westwood Lake, Barren Lake)
• Walking along the Waterfront and take a rest on the plateau where the cannons are fired every day,
• Enjoying the view over the harbour and the islands
• eating at Delicados: Try the Mediterranean Roll-up with chicken and avocado, The Keg: Try the dessert “Chocolate heaven” and Poutine at Pirate Chips.
